Rebuilding an America for All

Statement on today’s inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris

As the sun rises upon the dawn of a new era, we honor the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. We rejoice today, build faith for our future, and join together in the work ahead for a more united and equitable country.

Today is also an incredibly historic day as Vice President Kamala Harris took the oath of office, as the first woman, first African American, and first person of South Asian descent to hold this position.

Furthermore, the Biden and Harris administration is on track to be the most diverse cabinet in American history. Yesterday, the Biden Administration made another historic nomination, that of Doctor Rachel Levine. As Assistant Secretary of Health, she would be the first transgender federal official to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

Now we must roll up our sleeves and continue the work ahead towards racial justice, gender equality and LGBTQ rights. We have seen the best and worst of America over the last four years. Now comes the work of rebuilding an America which holds promise not for a chosen few, but for all.
